What is Nabumetone?
|
|
Nabumetone
is used to relieve the pain, tenderness,
inflammation (swelling), and stiffness caused by
osteoarthritis and rheumatoid arthritis. Nabumetone
is in a class of medications called nonsteroidal
anti-inflammatory medications (NSAIDs). It works by
stopping the body's production of a substance that
causes pain, fever, and inflammation.

Nabumetone
is a white
to off-white crystalline
substance with a
molecular weight of 228.3. It is nonacidic and
practically insoluble in water, but soluble in alcohol and most organic solvents. It has an n-octanol:phosphate
buffer partition coefficient of 2400 at pH 7.4.

mode of action
|
|
Nabumetone
comes as a tablet to take by mouth. It is usually
taken once or twice a day with or without food. To
help you remember to take nabumetone, take it around
the same time every day. Follow the directions on
your prescription label carefully, and ask your
doctor or pharmacist to explain any part you do not
understand. Take nabumetone exactly as directed. Do
not take more or less of it or take it more often
than prescribed by your doctor.

pharmacokinetics
|
|
Each
oval-shaped, film-coated tablet contains 500 mg or
750 mg of nabumetone. Inactive ingredients consist
of hydroxypropyl methylcellulose, microcrystalline
cellulose, polyethylene glycol, polysorbate 80, sodium lauryl sulfate, sodium starch glycolate and titanium dioxide. The 750 mg tablets also
contain iron oxides.
